Module Summary: -Development of a mathematical model. -Modelling considerations for control purposes. -First second and higher order systems. -Dynamic testing. -Deviation variables. -Linearisation. -Linear operations. -The Laplace transform. -The feedback concept. -Control loop elements. -Block diagrams. -Open and closed loop transfer functions. -Controller types and characteristics. -Control of first, second and higher order systems. -Control system design and stability. -Controller tuning. -Frequency response techniques. -Correlation methods. -Complex control systems: dead time and inverse response control, cascade control, feedforward and ratio control, adaptive and inferential control. -Multi-variable processes - loop interaction and decoupling. -Relative Gain Array. -Computer control - hardware and software. -Plant-wide control system design.
