1. Understand and analyse single and three phase power circuits.
2. Understand magnetic fields, with particular reference to energy conversion applications.
3. Be familiar with the properties of different materials in magnetic fields.
4. Understand and analyse a range of applications involving these principles and materials.
5. Obtain some familiarity with electrical machine major components.
6. Be introduced to the design principles associated with dc and ac machines.
7. Be familiar with fundamental machine performance characteristics.
8. Have performed some dc and ac machine performance calculations.
