Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to the concept of energy and the laws governing the transfers and transformations of energy. The course begins with an emphasis on thermodynamic properties and the First and Second Law analysis of systems and control volumes. This follows with an integration of these concepts into the analysis of basic power cycles. The course continues with an emphasis on the analysis of power and refrigeration cycles and the application of basic principles to engineering problems. The course is structured with four one-hour lectures and a one-hour tutorial per week. The content of this course is structured to follow internationally accepted standards and is based on the content of the existing curriculum. The standard sequence of topics from the standard thermodynamic texts will be used for the course outline.
