The aim of the module is to gain understanding into how engineering structures and components transmit loads and other external actions by means of internal stresses and how these stresses lead to strains and displacements. The course aims to explain the simple models of beam behaviour, concepts such as Mohr circle of stress and the relationships between stress and strain. Relevant case studies will be used to illustrate the importance of these subject areas.
