The role of the electric grid is of capital importance to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions by increasing the penetration of renewable primary energy sources and the
efficiency of the energy consumption.
Although the concept of Smart Grid is relatively new, it has become very common even
in non-technical forums. In this course students will know the technologies and
applications behind the Smart Grid concept.
The motivation for the development of smart grids, the technologies and how the
technologies are applied to achieve smarter transmission and distribution grids are
presented.
