To inform the student of the need to design and manufacture products in an environmentally sustainable manner. To illustrate the use of life cycle analysis software to ensure that the lowest impact material selection, manufacturing processes etc. are adhered to. To identify the various recycling/recovery processes available to ensure that the student designs a product with these solutions in mind at end of life. To identify key alternatives to existing fossil fuels in energy creation and thereby help promote a more sustainable manufacturing environment.
