Course Description:

Energy engineering is a broad field of engineering dealing with energy efficiency, energy services, renewable energy processes, and alternative energy technologies. Energy engineering combines knowledge from the fields of electrochemistry and material science with environmental engineering practices. Especially, understanding of electrochemistry in typical redox reactions can be useful for the thermodynamic/kinetic control in various energy storage and energy conversion devices. This course will cover the understanding of electrochemical/material engineering and recent energy applications such as batteries, fuel cells, electrodepositions, and corrosions.

The aim of this course is to build on electrochemistry and its application to energy devices developed in undergraduate program. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamental concepts of related to electrochemistry, understanding of electrochemical cells, corrosion and prevention, and various energy storage/conversion devices.
