This course introduces the theory and practice of programming language translation, compilation, and
run-time systems. Students are required to complete a significant programming project to build a
compiler for a simple but non-trivial programming language. Topics include the control of translation,
loading, and execution; symbolic coding systems; lexical and syntactic analysis, design and operation of
assemblers and macroprocessors; design of interpretive systems.
