The first part of the module is an overview of kinetic theory, thermodynamics and the structure of matter. In second part, the laws of thermodynamics are derived from microscopic physics, and the fundamentals of classical and quantum statistical physics are developed, including discussions of Maxwell-Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics.
