Course Description: Transport planning. Traffic flow theory. Roadway and intersection design. Road safety. Traffic surveys. Transport project evaluation. Environmental impacts. Traffic management. Learning Outcomes AIM To assist students to understand the fundamentals of transportation system analysis and management, and provide some basic tools for road network design. OBJECTIVES a. To introduce traffic flow theory and simulation for the analysis of traffic flow situations and the interaction of flow efficiency. b. To describe basic techniques for collecting and analysing traffic data, diagnosing problems, designing appropriate remedial treatment, and assessing its effectiveness. c. To introduce basic concepts underlying methods for predicting the demand for transport, the pattern of movement in a transport network, and the economic evaluation of transport projects. d. To describe basic techniques for controlling traffic flow (i.e. reduce traffic congestion). This course is comprised of three parts: e. Traffic flow theory and simulation, f. Traffic network modelling, and g. Transportation Planning
