Course Description:
This course 1) introduces principles of evolution and the major events in the history of life, and 2) provides a basic understanding of how scientific methods are used in the field of evolutionary biology, and how evolutionary thinking is applied to issues in biological diversity, animal behavior and modern human biology. The main goal is to develop a scientific way of thinking about the facts of life, including human beings. “There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” (Charles Darwin, On the Origin of Species, 1859)
