Course Description:
Sustainability and sustainable development; frameworks, concepts, constructs, models and values. Concepts of progress, resilience, redundancy, growth and consumption (versus biophysical limits), system complexity (versus separation and reduction), non-equilibrium thermodynamics and process change and as they relate to engineering practice and values, historical context and drivers for change and transformation. Technological innovations in process engineering. Environmental management systems, energy management, life cycle assessment, carbon management. Cleaner technology as applied to product development and energy supply.
